Hello and welcome to my new blog Intelligencia ex Machina (IeM). My name is Robert, and I am a Data Scientist with a BS in Mathematics from the University of Maryland and MS in Statistics from George Washington University. In both programs, I focused on statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling. Currently, I work at the US Census Bureau as a Mathematical Statistician, focused on anomaly detection for fraud and quality.

Why IeM?

The name draws inspiration from Deus Ex Machina, a term from ancient theater that refers to a god-like intervention resolving a complex situation. Often delivered by a god lowered onto the stage via a mechanical device. To me, it represents how intelligence—once thought of as divine or uniquely human—now emerges from the complexity of algorithms and machines. It reflects the beauty of how something extraordinary can arise from intricate systems, much like AI itself.

As Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning rapidly advance, many find navigating this new landscape challenging. IeM is here to educate and offer insights on these transformative technologies to readers of both technical and non-technical backgrounds.

At IeM, you will find:

  • Explanations: Concepts dissected for clarity with optional deep dives for those interested in mathematics or technical details.
  • AI in Context: Discussions about ethical and philosophical implications.
  • Practical Applications: Insights into how ML and AI are solving real problems, including case studies and tutorials.
  • Emerging Trends: Updates on the latest developments in AI and ML.
  • Thoughtful Content, Not Prolific Quantity

While I aim to provide thoughtful and engaging content, please note that I do not guarantee frequent posting. My commitments and focus on quality mean posts may be less frequent but are designed to be meaningful and insightful.
